Today, Vice President J.D. Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance are visiting Greenland with a U.S. delegation that includes National Security Advisor Michael Waltz and Energy Secretary Chris Wright. The vice president’s eldest son will be on the trip as well.
President Donald Trump has repeatedly spoken of acquiring Greenland and Greenlandic Prime Minister Múte Bourup Egede said the purpose of the U.S. delegation was “to demonstrate power over us.“
President Trump responded, “This is friendliness, not provocation. We’re dealing with a lot of people from Greenland that would like to see something happen with respect to their being properly protected and properly taken care of… We were invited over there.”
“I think Greenland is going to be something that maybe is in our future,” the president added. “It’s important from the standpoint of international security. And if you look at the ships outside of Greenland, you have Russia, you have China, you have lots of different people and lots of different places, and it cannot go on the way it is.“
